UMC (NYSE: UMC, TWSE: 2303) was founded in 1980 as Taiwan's first
semiconductor company. It later became the first IC company to list
on the Taiwan stock exchange. In 1995, UMC transformed its business
strategy to a pure-play foundry model, and has since grown to become
a global leader in semiconductor process technology and manufacturing.
UMC's leading-edge technologies, such as volume production 90nm,
65nm, and mixed signal/RFCMOS processes, enable sophisticated system-on-chip
(SoC) designs that drive today's advanced consumer, computer and
communication products. Production is supported by 10 manufacturing
facilities located worldwide, including two advanced 300mm fabs
in Taiwan and Singapore. UMC employs over 13,000 people worldwide
and has offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and
Singapore.
